![]() The receiver would seem to be made in Turkey. I think what I have is a "M1938" (for lack of a better term) Kirikkale Mauser rifle with a new receiver. No G98 receiver was made to accept a small shank barrel (the M1903 was so made) and no G98 receiver was originally manufactured with an extra long receiver ring which was cut to retain a handguard. Obviously the manufacturer added some distance to create a handguard groove. The M1938 Kirikkale receiver ring is 1.811 inches. The G98 receiver ring top measured front to rear is 1.698 inches (measured on a K98k, which should be the same). ![]() In measuring to see if it was a G98 receiver milled out to fit the hand guard, I made a discovery. Then I thought it was a G98 because it has an Imperial proofed G98 bolt, but the barrel is small shank and the receiver ring is grooved in front to hold the handguard. At first I thought it was a M1903 because it has no guard screw lock screws but the receiver bridge and bolt release are wrong for a M1903. ![]() I just bought a 1940 Kirikkale M1938 Turk Mauser, s/n 10962. ![]()
